Mobile Bay's Eastern Shore

Fairhope is the jewel of the Eastern Shore. Fairhope is listed as one of the top five retirement communities by a national publication for senior citizens. Called the Carmel of the South, it is a mecca for Artists and Writers. Quaint shops abound and the local cuisine attracts many visitors. Our beautiful parks and flowers are a year round attraction.

Almost an extension of Fairhope, Point Clear is home to the Grand Hotel, "Queen of Southern Resorts." Surviving over 150 years, once a hospital for the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and most recently a survivor of hurricane Katrina, the Hotel is ever changing and a must see and stay. With over 40 million dollars in recent renovations, new guest rooms have been added, with existing rooms updated. An addition of a 20,000 square foot European Spa with an indoor swimming pool is a treat for anyone with its first class spa services. The outdoor pool is fabulous. You will think you are truly in paradise. And, of course, you can always enjoy the Hotel's beautiful beach and boardwalk. The fishing pier provides fun and excitement for children and adults.

If golf is your game, the Grand has two courses, Lakewood and Azalea. The Grand is on the Robert Trent Golf Trail and a must to play. Point Clear has something for everyone.

Daphne is most famous for being one of the few places in the world to experience the phenomenon know as a "Jubilee." When conditions are right, oxygen levels fall in the bay forcing blue crabs, shrimp and fish into the shallows. The resulting harvest is a "JUBILEE." The phenomenon is not unique to Daphne, but can happen from one end of the Eastern Shore to the other.

Daphne was a town originally built on the waterfront. In 1927, when the causeway opened to Mobile, the town began its move up the hill. Daphne is a beautiful place to live.

Between Fairhope and Daphne is the community of Montrose. The highest land abutting saltwater between Mexico and Canada in the Eastern United States is Ecor Rouge (The Red Cliffs) of Montrose. Montrose is another Eastern Shore location rich with history and beauty. The bluffs in Montrose are one of the best places on our shore to view our spectacular sunsets.

Spanish Fort, with its wonderful location right off the Interstate, has some of the best shopping in the area. Bass Pro Shop, right off the Bay Way, opened in August of '08. It has quickly become an area destination. Drop Dad off at Bass Pro and continue down to the next exit to some of Alabama's best shopping. Experience the Eastern Shore Centre. It's anchor is Dillards, and boasts Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Barnes and Noble, Talbots, Coldwater Creek, Chicos and many, many specialty shops.
